Off The Grid Productions is presenting the 3rd Annual Big Island Blues Festival on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Luau Grounds of the Courtyard Marriott at King Kamehameha’s Beach Hotel. The Event will feature Tomi Isobe’s Blues Band, The Scott & Larry Show, and Ronnie V. & The Family Band. The family-friendly event is open to all ages. Ticket info below.
“Blues music is about life and telling a story and everyone has a story to tell,” said event organizer Zackery Kuyten of Off The Grid Productions. “Blues music most certainly gave life to so many musical genres that came after it, setting the foundation for almost all popular music in the 20th century,” said Kuyten. “Don’t be fooled by the blues’ basic musical structure that’s fairly simple to play—that only makes conveying a song’s message even more difficult, which is why the blues singers’ styles are so deeply rooted in passion and emotion. A good blues player has the ability to strike a chord deep within your soul and take those bottled up feelings of sadness, love, hope and sorrow, and smash it against a brick wall to set them free. Unplug from the daily stresses of life and come enjoy yourself with some great live music.”
Tomi Isobe’s Blues Band
Tomi Isobe moved from his hometown of Shimizu, Japan to Atlanta Georgia in 1982 to play the blues. He moved to the Big Island in 2010, where he has been playing his combination of classic and shuffle blues ever since.
The Scott & Larry Show
A unique and powerful collaboration between lead singer Scott Reagan and blues guitarist “Lightin'” Larry Dupio will take place at this year’s Blue Fest. Reagan is the lead vocalist for Bottle of Blue, a Naalehu-based five-piece classic rock and blues band. Hilo’s Dupio has recorded six albums, and brought home a Na Hoku Hanohano award for Lightening Strikes Hilo, the 2018 Rock Album of the Year. “We both have a lot of fun ideas and interesting surprises in mind,” say Reagan.”You never know what The Scott and Larry show is going to do, and that’s what everyone will learn so don’t miss it!” Be prepared for major seismic activity when this duo hits the stage.
Ronnie V & The Family Band
Ronnie V & The Family Band is an American Roots Music group based in Kona that focuses on the tradition of storytelling history, through acoustic music. Their sound infuses Blues, Gospel, Soul, Bluegrass, and Americana to showcase the tales of the hard times of the working class and the triumphs of finding the light at the end of the tunnel. Perpetuating positivity in the face of darkness is the moral at the core of all of their original music. “Heavy & soulful while simultaneously delivering the message of perseverance, their songs inspire a feeling of hope and their timeless American sound is a direct reflection of the people, from all walks of life, coming together, to make our darkest times… better, and brighter.”
