5 Big Island Shows to Check Out This Weekend


Our guide to shows happening this weekend on the Big Island.

The Electric Beach Ball 2019! at Kohanaiki Beach Park. (Saturday, July 6, 8am – 7pm) An all-day event from Sunrise to Sunset showcasing local DJs from around the island at a beautiful beach atmosphere. Great Music, Grilling, Games, Swimming, Lounging, and much more. An event to bring the whole family down and come let loose! Our resident DJs will be knocking out a tasty selection of Deep House, Tech, and Progressive Grooves throughout the day taking you deep into the mix. Kohanaiki Beach Park is located in Kona. Situated between Costco and the Airport. Drive down Hulikoa Dr. The new road, take a right at the roundabout and another right before the guard stand, drive down the road, when you get to the beach, take a right and start keeping your ears open for the good music! You won’t miss it. Car accessible. This is an All Ages Family Event and FREE to the Community.

The Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (HPAF) will present two performances of Bizet’s masterpiece, The Tragedy of Carmen. HPAF’s production will open on Friday, July 5 at 7pm at Hilo’s Palace Theatre and close on Sunday, July 7 at 4pm at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea. Kimberly Hann and Brennan Martinez share the title role, appearing on July 5 and 7, respectively. Tickets for the Hilo Palace Theatre show are $25 for general admission. Tavana at Royal Kona Resort (Saturday, July 6, 6-8pm). Multi-instrumentalist Tavana will be returning to Kona this Saturday as part of Henry Kapono Presents “Summer Saturdays” at Don’s Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Kona Resort. Tavana has been the supporting act for Alabama Shakes, Shakey Graves, Xavier Rudd, Jenny Lewis, Julian Marley, and Kaleo to name just a few, and in 2009, Eddie Vedder invited Tavana to sing “Hawaii 78 – a Hawaii anthem of sorts – with him at the Hawaii Theatre. The Sunset Sessions Featuring Ronnie V. & The Family Band at the Kona Coast Resort – Sunset Terrace (Sunday, July 7, 5:30-7:30pm). The Sunset Sessions features original & old-time music from Ronnie V. & The Family Band. Enjoy the food & drink while listening to world-class music all with a world-class view of The Pacific Ocean.
