A fun opportunity for live entertainment lands at the Hilo Palace this month, in the form of an aerial circus jazz cabaret with live vocals! On September 20+22, Aerial Arts Hawai’i brings us their fourth annual show, CRAZY – An Aerial Jazz Cabaret featuring 15 awe-inspiring circus acts performed by 15 aerial artists, including four live vocal numbers by Hawai’i island-based vocalist Kat Reuss. Ticket info below.
In this 1920s-inspired evening, enjoy aerial fabric, hoop, trapeze, straps, acrobatics, dance and more for 90 minutes of fun, fresh aerial action, set to jazz tracks and jazz-inspired covers of modern pop music. The fourth Aerial Arts Hawai’i show to come to the Palace, CRAZY is rated PG13 for occasional acts of sensual self-expression.
The show features Big Island-based performers as well as artists coming in from Maui and Portland. Kat Reuss, Crazy’s emcee and vocalist, has previously starred as Nellie Forbush in the Kahilu Theatre’s production of South Pacific and Ariel in the Waimea Community Theater production of The Little Mermaid. With a background in performing arts, Reuss has a degree in classical music and spent 3 years with Illinois Opera as a vocalist and choreographer before traveling across the mainland as an actor and director for Missoula Children’s Theater. Reuss will be performing four diverse songs in CRAZY.
“All of our shows are extremely musically driven,” says Aerial Arts Hawai’i co-founder Zoe Eisenberg, CRAZY’s co-producer and co-director. “So it was a natural fit for us to incorporate live vocals for several of the acts. One day we hope to have all live music so we can showcase even more of the incredible talent here on the island.”
