We Stranded Records are proud to announce “An Evening with Afroman” on Friday, Sept 2, 2022, at the Hilo Civic Center. Tickets are $70 for General Admission and $100 for Floor.
Afroman hit international success with his Platinum song “Because I got High” (2000). In 2002 he received his first Grammy nomination. Since then, he has continued to release hit after hit, including “Crazy Rap (Colt 45 & 2 Zig Zags)” (2004), “One Hit Wonder” (2014), “A Homeboy Can Survive” (2020), and his latest project with Blazar, “Step it up” (2021). Guests will be wowed not just by the performances but by its majesty as We Stranded Records has spared no expense on Lights, Sound, and Sets.
The opening acts include some of the most talented artists on the islands, including The BarzLive Hip Hop Crew (Kyle Strngz, Elly Edda, MC SlashMics, Lil Homie, Mario, & Eminemily), St. Dela Crim, Lopaka Rootz Band, and Brandy G. Casey808 and Nehemiah Nihipali will host the show.
Brandy G is a Polynesian American Rapper, Singer, and Songwriter. Known to be an aggressive lyricist with a confrontational and risqué delivery. She has had great success with her debut single, “No Love,” and created her first album, You Already Know, in 2022.
Lopaka Rootz is an upbeat, positive musician sharing good vibes and aloha through his various songs and styles of reggae music. His hits include “Living My Best Life,” “Blue Clear Sky,” and “Lemon Pie.”
Maui-based St. Dela Crim is coming to his third Big Island show. Previous hits include “Sunny Days” (2021) and “LLCB” (2021), and his latest single, “Respond,” is rapidly gaining attention.
The BarZLive Hip Hop Crew (pronounced Bars Live, www.BarzLive.com) gained notoriety when they performed at Amigos Cantina in early 2022 over a grueling 13-week challenge that culminated in a Finale at the Hilo Palace Theatre. The House of Phoenix team took home a prize pot of over $1100 and a recording agreement. Since then, team members have continued to produce individually, and member Kyle Strngz was a finalist for the 2022 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Hip Hop Album of the year.
Casey808 is another Hilo native. He started rapping at thirteen and, by fifteen, had won first prize at an M.C. Battle held at the Hilo Civic Center. He has continued to develop his sound and push out local favorites such as “Weird Flex,” “Pakalolo,” and “Loyalty.”
With an incredible lineup headlined by the Hungry Hustler himself, “An Evening with Afroman” will be a concert you don’t want to miss. While this is We Stranded Record’s first significant event, the team has informed us that it won’t be the last as they work to bring some of the biggest names in music to Hawaii Island for the first time.
