Big Island trumpeter and recording artist Ann Hoku Lyn announces the release of her new music video “Mama Don’t (Take No Mess),” available Friday, May 7.
It’s the third single released from her upcoming album entitled Trust. This is Lyn’s first solo album and features jazzy trumpet riffs, island rhythms, and soulful vocals that tell a story of a woman’s ability to reclaim her own life.
“Mama Don’t (Take No Mess),” is an upbeat funky tune written by Ann Hoku Lyn and the music video was produced by local videographer Mike Sato. The song celebrates uniquely feminine energy that will have you laughing and making you want to dance!
Honoring mothers and the contributions of female entrepreneurs and artists who are holding down home, family, and career, Lyn while cleaning up one day, started singing “Mama Don’t Take No Mess” to help her cope with dealing with everyone’s mess in a fun way. She wrote the lyrics while holding her baby in the kitchen in one arm, with pots and pans bubbling over and coffee spilling on paper, but the creative spark had hit, ironically at a very messy moment!
“Mama Don’t (Take No Mess)” is a song that celebrates female creativity and the resilience of a woman’s spirit. It encourages women to follow their creative spark and to dance through the messiness of life and not take any mess from anyone!
