Genre: Farm to folk punk poetry that delivers a call to action around personal, political and spiritual evolution.
About: Originally rooted in New Jersey and Philadelphia, where he fronted prog-ska band Tsunami Rising, now living on the Big Island of Hawaii where he is strengthening his connections to land, source and family.
For Hawaii-born singer, songwriter and musical innovator Higgs, it all started with rhythm. He picked up his first set of drumsticks while still in middle school, and since then he knew music was what he wanted to do. True, these days he favors his trusty tenor ukulele, but percussion has stuck with him throughout his musical career. Higgs’s productions defy any single genre, drawing on elements of the three R’s (rap, reggae, and R&B) as well as singer/songwriter sensibilities to create a sound wholly his own. His music creates an open and authentic atmosphere, inviting listeners to connect with him at a basic human level and shake up the status quo.
About: Kaahele is a Hawaiian word for “Journey” and the musical name of Kelly Hyde. Her lyrics are clever, uplifting, and comical, bringing awareness and at the same time making light of the human situation. Her music covers an array of folk, reggae, bluegrass, and her own special flavor. Kaahele speaks to the separation between the modern and natural world. She represents nomadic culture, holding respect for native people, and reaching out to those who could use a fresh point of view. Her songs are full of food for thought, and her melodies are soothing and creative. Listeners may feel inclined to laugh or be brought to tears.

I am a solo musician who utilizes live-looping to build a captivating performance. My music is all instrumental, borrowing a broad spectrum of influences from jazz to indie rock, and frequently incorporating odd time signatures in an approachable fashion. Some people might call my genre, “mathrock”. Audiences are always perplexed by my ability to seamlessly move from playing guitar to playing drums on stage. I have been playing live shows for the past 3 years in Colorado. Now that I have been living out here for almost a year, I am finally comfortable to get out and play some shows that are not open mics.
