Jake Shimabukuro Fairmont Orchid Ballroom, Puako January 12, 2018 It was a special evening, not only for the audience who experienced a 90-minute stellar performance by ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro, but also for a lucky young lady by the name of Wehiwa Donager.. Last month, two non-profits, the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival and the Music for Life Foundation, came together and donated 20 Kala “Waterman” ukuleles to Kealakehe Intermediate School in Kailua-Kona. Singer/songwriter Bub Pratt, originally from Seattle, now lives in Hilo as the curator of Kukuau Studio. If you’ve never been, the Hilo studio is set in a small theater. Pratt offers music lessons, jazz jams, and even slam poetry events. Its now a recoding studio, and has its own label called Kukuau Studio. Pratt’s new release Oceans & Bridges was recored there, and is the name of his newest collection of songs.
