Big Eye Band drops new single “Life Ain’t Easy” on June 19

Big Eye Band, an alternative rock group, has certainly been busy over the past few months despite all the setbacks due to Covid-19. With no shows, no gigs, no live presence since early March, the Big Island group has been busy working on a few singles with the first “Life Ain’t Easy” coming June 19.

During the stay-at-home requirements,  Evan Morrow has been working on his lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Matt Barbaccia has been focusing on lead guitar, vocals, and marketing, Mikey Herr is working on his bass chops, and James Schwartz has been upgrading his drum fills, also tracking the band’s finances and gig schedule to ensure their show is ready once live music comes back.

“We’re planning to drop a song a month at this point, we’ve been making headway as a band despite a lack of show presence, which is usually our first priority, Schwartz adds.” Studio time is precious, and so many things go into preparing, executing, and releasing a song. “We learned how to approach a studio session after our first song “3rd Eye” was released back in late April,” Barbaccia adds.

“We spent countless hours practicing the tune to tempo, getting the rhythm down, and adding some soul and passion into the overall sound.” The band recorded, mixed, and mastered their most recent song “Life Ain’t Easy” with the support of Hilo’s Sam Bradley at Sonic Sculpture Recording and Los Angeles’ Mark Chalecki at Little Red Book Mastering. Barbaccia shares his thoughts on the new single: “Life Ain’t Easy” is an upbeat jam written from the perspective of aspiring musicians and their commitment to excellence. This dedication often takes a toll on personal relationships and other commitments; it’s almost like being ‘on the run’ all the time trying to make ends meet. As a musician, being there for someone special is challenging when you treat your band like a full-time job. This song is for anyone facing similar struggles in their life, whether it be their commitment to music or other passions. It’s meant to be encouraging and relatable in that way, however, it can be openly interpreted in other ways too.”

Outside of recording singles, Big Eye Band has been arranging another show at MyBar. Details will be shared on social media platforms once a gig is scheduled. The group is also planning to reschedule a show they had booked with Hilo Town Tavern, which was canceled due to Covid-19 restrictions on live entertainment.
