The Blue Dragon Tavern is delighted to present the premiere public appearance of the Big Island Groove Band on Sunday, June 12, from 6-9 p.m. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available on the bluedragontavern.com site.
Food from rotating local chefs and a full bar will be available. This performance is part of the re-start of the music happening at the famous tavern in Kawaihae.
The Big Island Groove Band is an energetic and versatile performance cover band with a three-lead singer vocal force: American Idol contestant Amanda Avila, Big Island heartthrob Josh Timmons, and romantic crooner Jesse Snyder transport you into a universe of dance and music fun!
Big Island Groove Band’s style is aggressive and dynamic with powerful horns, richly colored basslines, and a strong groove that makes you get up and dance or sway to hypnotic beats.
The band also provides a full background of voices from keyboardist Dave Miller, guitarist Jonah Villanueva, bassist Yumbel Marassi, and drummer Zach Var.
Amanda Avila is a vibrant and versatile vocalist and actress. Her vocal style is an eclectic mix of pop, rock, country, and soul. She has appeared in numerous commercials, on stage, in major sporting, national political campaign events, and shows in Las Vegas, including Selena Forever; the Sirens of TI at Treasure Island; Dancing Queen; Broadway Celebration; Terry Bradshaw’s America’s Favorite Dumb Blonde a Life in 4 Quarters; and Fantasy.
As a contestant for American Idol Season 4, Amanda advanced to the Top 12, which led to being an entertainment correspondent for E-news and Fox’s Reality Remix.
She currently lives on the big island of Hawaii, is a featured vocalist for the Big Island Groove Band, and occasionally performs at local restaurants and clubs.
Josh Timmons is a gifted vocalist, trumpet player, educator, and vocal director. Born and raised on the big island of Hawaii, he attended Hilo High School. He got his BA in Performing Arts with a music concentration at the University of Hawaii Hilo. In 2018, he received a Na Hoku Hanohano Award with Kahulanui as part of the celebrated horn section. Josh is an adaptable musician who has been a part of many local productions and performances, including the UH Production of Rent. He played the lead role and vocal directed the show. He currently plays with multiple Hawaii-based bands, including Hoku award-winning reggae band Ho’aikane and is the musical director for the Big Island Groove Band.
Jesse Snyder is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger, vocalist, Grammy, and Na Hoku Hanohano Award, nominee. He plays tenor and baritone saxophones, clarinet, flute, and drums, has a smooth baritone singing voice, and is one of the most requested musicians in Hawai’i for live performances and recording sessions. In addition, he received a Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Jazz Album of the Year while performing with the Hawaiian swing band, Kahulanui.
Jesse transcends multi- genres, including jazz, R&B, neo-soul, reggae, hip hop, Brazilian, Latin, and contemporary jazz, lending fresh energy to every performance.
He performs Wednesday through Saturday at the Manta Mauna Kea Beach Hotel with Gary Washburn.
