On Feb. 14, Hawaii island trumpeter, composer, and recording artist Ann Hoku Lyn hits again, with her newest release, “Love Rebel,” a reggae song with a timely message that features collaborations with other local female artists, Moni and Binti Bailey.
“Love Rebel” honors Hoku Lyn’s Island roots and features her skills as a trumpet player. It is the fourth single she has released that will be featured on her upcoming album, and the release is accompanied by a full-length music video released on the same day.
The song was created out of her personal experience of choosing to respond to hatred with love and was produced to encourage people to rebel against the systems that seek to divide us.
The music video was shot in Hoku Lyn’s recording studio and at several remote locations around the Big Island, and features stunning images of the island as well as cameos by other local musical artists and DJs and was directed, filmed, and edited by Timo Gomez of One Wave Productions.
“So often we think we are being rebellious, yet we are doing exactly what the system wants. We are fighting each other instead of fighting for each other,” says Hoku Lyn. The single will be available on all digital streaming platforms and the video will be available on YouTube Monday, Feb. 14.
Ann Hoku Lyn will be performing this song along with other hard-hitting, unreleased songs from her forthcoming album as she headlines the Kona Brewer’s Festival in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Saturday, March 12th, and at a special one-night-only Love Rebel Concert Thursday, March 24th at the Kahilu Theatre in Kamuela, Hawaii, which will also be livesteamed via KahiluTV.
