Ukrainian classical pianist and 2022 Cliburn Medalist Dmytro Choni will perform at the Kahilu Theatre on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online or by calling the box office.
Dmytro Choni took home bronze at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in June 2022, only the second Ukrainian pianist to medal at the prestigious contest. He won hearts and accolades with a compelling and colorful musicality fortified by a genuine, immediately engaging stage presence. One critic noted: “Each time he strode onstage, it was with winning confidence and a big smile. He’s clearly an accomplished, assured―and communicative—pro” (Dallas Morning News).
Dmytro’s Cliburn prize builds on an already impressive résumé. He has collaborated with renowned orchestras, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Phoenix Symphony, RTVE Symphony, Seongnam Philharmonic, Ukraine National Symphony, Liechtenstein Symphony, and Dominican Republic National Symphony. His performances in major halls in Europe, Asia, South America, and the United States have made a lasting impression on his appreciative audiences. Choni’s debut album, released by Naxos in 2020, received a “Supersonic Award” from Pizzicato.
Highlights from Dmytro’s 2022–2023 inaugural tour as Cliburn medalist include Beethovenfest Bonn, the Duszniki International Chopin Piano Festival (Poland), and Palau de la Música (Spain); a recital tour across the United States; and piano duo appearances with Wu Han and Anna Geniushene at Wolf Trap and La Musica Festival.
“It will be my tribute to Ukraine, its people, and music.” — Dmytro Choni
On-Demand tickets for this show, which are good for an entire household, are $19.99 and available at Kahilu.TV.
