The historic ninety-six-year-old Palace Theater will present Home for the HiloDays 2021, a three-night concert fundraising event in celebration of the holiday season. Three live performances with in-person attendance are Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7:00 p.m. and a Sunday matinee, Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m. Advance tickets start at just $20 and are available here.
The Saturday and Sunday performances will be livestreamed for free via hilopalace.com as a gift to the community. Folks unable to attend in person can experience the wonderful holiday magic showcased on the Palace stage with the family gathered around the home screen.
“Only a Scrooge would not want to join in on this incredible line-up of vocalists, musicians, dancers, and clowns in this seventy-five-minute ode to the magic of Christmas,” said Phillips Payson, Executive Director for the Palace Theater. “Tune in for the ‘holly-est,’ jolliest cast in town who will make the season bright in a warm and magical musical journey.”
“Home for the HiloDays,” conceived by Charles Bankhead Haines and Larry Reitzer, is being produced in association with the Hilo Education Arts Repertory Theatre (HEART) and will feature your favorite Hilo musical theater stars singing and dancing treasured songs from the season. The production, which will serve as a fundraiser for the Palace Theater, is a flashback to the old-fashioned, televised holiday specials of yesteryear, mixing music, comedy, special guests, and of course, the spirit of Christmas.
The show is co-hosted by Charles Bankhead Haines and Alexander Knapp, who was recently seen in the sold-out Palace Theater production of “Disney’s Beauty and The Beast.” Joining the festivities will be Marlise Ahuna, Jennie Kaneshiro, Meili Aspen, Bridge Hartman, Kaiulu Tiogangco Sam Deitch, and Aleah Kay, with special guest, Kyra Gomes who starred as Belle in “Beauty and the Beast” and has been off-island pursuing her musical theater education at Oklahoma City University. The concert will feature 20 dancers and a live 4-piece band led by Asha Azama on the piano.
This family-friendly holiday spectacular is being produced by Jason Green, co-directed by Larry Reitzer and Phillips Payson, musically directed by Asha Azama and Charles Bankhead Haines, and choreographed by Nadia Schlosser and Aleah Kay. Set and lighting design are by Jeramy Boik and Theon Weber, respectively.
Just as warming to the season as hot cocoa, Christmas cookies, and cozy blankets by a crackling fire, the concert will feature a bevy of beautiful holiday classics and festive fan favorites of the season. The star-studded- set will include such favorites as: “Last Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “We Need A Little Christmas,” and so much more! The show has been rehearsed and will be performed under the strictest of COVID-19 protocols as the County of Hawaii advised.
Come celebrate the holidays at the Palace Theater or tune in from home and have yourselves a “Merry Little Christmas Now!” Advance tickets are only $20 and are available online at hilopalace.com.
