The Kahilu Theatre will present Marta Pereira Da Costa in concert on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 4 p.m. Alexandre Diniz (grand piano) will join Marta on stage.

Playing with intense precision, emotion, and grace, Marta Pereira da Costa is the world’s first and only professional female player of the Portuguese guitar. Although Marta specializes in fado, the soulful music from her native country will entertain the Kahilu audience with an international blend of melodies and rhythms.

Marta started playing the piano at four and later learned the classical guitar. When she turned 18, she studied the Portuguese guitar earnestly. As a result, Marta has skillfully mastered the instrument, playing melodies that intertwine traditional fado chords with classical music, jazz, and world music sounds. In 2012, Marta recorded on the Fados de Amor album, which was the first album where a woman solely played the Portuguese guitar. It was awarded Best Fado Album of 2012 by the prestigious Amália Rodrigues Foundation. Two years later, she released her first solo album with her compositions and a tribute to her musical influences.

Marta has performed in Brazil, the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Holland, France, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, Tunisia, and Israel, among other countries. Fans spanning the globe agree that when Marta performs, she delivers what cannot be recorded: the heart of a woman who made the guitar an extension of her soul.

On-Demand tickets for this show, which are good for an entire household, are $19.99 and are available at Kahilu.TV.
