Exotica comes to the Big Island – February 28-29

Come experience the fresh sounds of neo-exotica dub lounge music straight from Oahu, Hawaii!

IntoxiKa features multi-Hoku Award-winner and bird call master Lopaka Colon Jr. who is following the legacy of his father, the “Sophisticated Savage,” Augie Colon, who started the original exotica movement with Martin Denny. Intokika will be appearing at Gertrude’s Jazz Bar in Kona for two nights only, Fri.- Sat., February 28-29. Ticket info below.

Mallet percussionist Thomas Mackay, world percussionist/birdcall master Lopaka Colon Jr., and the stellar bass guru Ernie Provencher, together as Intoxika, weave seamlessly thru dub infused versions of classics by exotica pioneers Baxter, Denny, and Lyman, performing the compositions with sweet atmospheric interpretation. Audiences are taken on a journey back to the 1950’s era Oahu, Hawaii when tiki ruled the airwaves and tiki bars were all the rage! IntoxiKA is reigniting exotica and bringing it into the present; danceable, yet familiar… best served with a mai tai.

If you go… Have a good show!
