Gin Jupiter, the Folk/Americana duo from Ka’u, will release their first single on April 29 on all streaming platforms. They describe it as “a love story to the melodies of the seventies.”
Multi-artists Tristan and Sofia White moved to the island of Hawai’i in 2018 to focus on their family, writing, and music. Tristan’s family has been building instruments on the island for more than a decade.
In 2018, musician/guitar builder Tristan followed the family path, along with his Swedish wife Sofia and their two children, to focus on music and creativity.
The couple initiated the creative collective Casablanca on the Big Island, making everything from sustainable woodworking to books and music in their studio.
Tristan is a previous member of the international group Driving Cassady. He’s a multi-instrumentalist who enjoys bringing musicians together. Sofia is a long-time writer who can come up with lyrics on the go. The two are fond of Neil Young, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, and contemporary singer-songwriters like Leon Bridges and Angus and Julia Stone.
On their debut single, “Say That Again,” the couple showcases their matching harmonies, love for metaphors, and guitar geekery. Their music blends the couple’s personalities in a balance of masculine and feminine that evolves from a light and airy acoustic folk to 70s-Esque groovy rock with soulful singing and string bending solos.
“Say That Again” was recorded at MFG Studios in Stockholm and Casablanca Studio in Ka’u, on the Big Island. Lead vocals were performed by Sofia and Tristan, with Tristan on guitars and bass. Joining them on the recording are fellow musicians Hampus Halling and Isak Jakobsson.
