ʻOahu-born Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning musician is known throughout these Hawaiian Islands for his innovative and inspiring songwriting styles. With his own signature style of Hawaiian Motown country music, John Cruz has performed at the Kahilu Theatre many times over the course of his career. In addition to his solo career, he has played with Henry Kapono and Brother Noland in the Rough Riders, Jack Johnson, and Paula Fuga. As someone who came from a musical family, John knows the importance music can have on a child’s life. His passion and support for cultural and educational projects allow him to encourage kids to believe in themselves and follow their inspirations.
Cruz released his first album Acoustic Soul, produced on his own label, Lilikoi Records in 1995 and has since successfully sold over 150,000 copies in Hawaii alone. In 2008, his long-awaited album “One of These Days” debuted at #1 in Hawaii, #2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, and #6 on the Billboard World Chart. In 2012, Honolulu Magazine named it one of the “Top 25 Greatest Hawaii Albums of the New Century.” Cruz’s heartfelt melodies and passionate, soulful vocals are what his fans have grown to love and cherish over the years.
