Corinne Quinajon, the founder of GalaxyQueenRecords, released her debut single “Crazy Bird” on October 25. The song is available for download on Soundcloud, Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming platforms.
“Crazy Bird,” written by Quinajon, was produced by David Pichard of DWP Sounds, and it was recorded at Iliki Music Studios in Hilo. The piece includes multiple instruments, including electric guitar, bass, drums, and organ.
The young artist’s song is an original piece and inspired by the palpable energy felt while observing a woman undergo a psychotic break at the beach. “‘Crazy Bird is a psychic evolution,” says Quinajon. “There is an evolving taking place within the character.” Quinajon continues, “This song grew from the darkness of the pandemic, which was mentally and emotionally challenging for me.”
“Crazy Bird” is layered with sound, and Pichard and Quinajon worked closely to bring a theatrical element into the song, aiming for a retro feel, with a taste of the avant-garde.
The 27-year-old multi-instrumentalist loves being surrounded by many instruments- Korg and Alesis synthesizers, a 26-string lever harp, pianos, ukuleles, acoustic, and electric guitars. She often works by constructing a melody from scratch and then adding lyrics using a “sound first” methodology.
“A song fell out of the sky today” is a saying Corinne often touts, paying tribute to the often mysterious and superfluous way that musical ideas appear in her state of consciousness. Her ambition is to stay in touch with the magic that lies in the heart of music and create songs from that lovely place.
A Hilo native, Corinne left home at an early age to live in San Francisco. A place where she found growth and inspiration. In 2019 Corinne was the lead singer of the SF Rock band Rose Gardens, performing in locations across San Francisco out of a solar-powered box truck. Competing in pageants at an early age, including Miss Hawai’i, has given Quinajon an edge in her stage performance, and she enjoys working with a band.
Later she went on to work in collaboration with world-famous Concert Pianist Ricardo Scales. Together they recorded “Sail Away,” a song written by Corinne and produced by Scales, which will be released on his forthcoming album. Scales was even able to bring in Juan Escovedo, brother of Sheila E, to play drums on the track.
Corinne Quinajon is a talented writer and has a vocal timbre that stands out. Her lyrics are poetic, and in this new song, “Crazy Bird,” she brings a sultry, sophisticated simplicity to the table.
