The Waimea Community Chorus (WCC) will celebrate the musical career of Sir Elton John with a choral tribute to his incredible work. The show will open with his 1970 hit “Your Song” which is in the Grammy Hall of Fame, and close with his 2019 Academy Award Winning song “I’m Gonna Love Me Again”. The chorus members have been amazed to learn of the numerous awards Sir Elton John has received, including, but not limited to: being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, two Academy Awards, five Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, two Golden Globe, a Tony, a Disney Legend and a Billboard Tour Award. Over the course of his career, he has produced 30 albums with lyricist Bernie Taupin, as well as 10 soundtrack albums for stage musicals. WCC will brighten up the Kahilu stage as they embody the spirit of this prolific English composer, singer, and pianist.
With 50 years of hit songs to choose from and a touch of dramatic flair, Musical Director Barbara Kopra has selected a wide range of popular tunes that the audience will want to sing along with. The show will be a chronological approach to sharing his music, with the first half including numbers like “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road “Candle in the Wind , and “’m Still Standing The second half features the musical theatre journey of Elton John including songs from Lion King, Aida, and Billy Elliot.
