Kalani will sing new music from his third album Kau Ka Pe’a and his 2021 Nā Hōkū Award-Winning Single of the Year, “O Holy Night.” His band will feature Wailau Ryder (guitar), Mark Vaught (bass), Aron Nelson (piano), Nālei Pokipala (backup vocals), and Michael Casil (drums) will join Kalani on the Kahilu stage.
Wrapped in a Bow Christmas Concert also features vocalist Damon Williams, Hālau Ka’eaikahelelani under the direction of nā Kumuhula Ka’ea and Kahelelani Lyons, Lorna Lim and Hālau Kawehileimamoikawēkiu’oKōhala, and NBC Little Big Shots Superstar Hunnay Demello of Hula Hālau E Hūlali Mai I Ka Lā under the direction of Kumuhula Chrissy Kama-Henriques.
Kalani Pe‘a is a singer of compelling power, sensitivity, and charisma and is considered one of the most promising emerging talents in a new generation of Hawaiian musicians. He has won two Grammy Awards for Best Regional Roots Album and one for his two CD releases. He is the only Hawaiian artist to succeed in this category. His first CD also garnered a 2017 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award, making Hawaiian music history as the only album to win both Grammy and Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards. In 2019, Kalani made his debut appearance at the prestigious Merrie Monarch hula competition, singing two of his original songs to accompany Hula Hālau ‘O Kamuela. The hālau took top honors at the competition.
Born and raised in Panaʻewa, Hilo, Kalani began singing at the age of four due to a childhood stutter. His natural talent was subsequently recognized in singing competitions and has carried him to the forefront of Hawaiian music today.
Kalani Pe’a is an accomplished singer and songwriter. He is also an acknowledged Hawaiian language practitioner, visual artist, and educator praised for his commitment to Hawaiian language fluency and his Hawaiian roots. His musical style ranges from traditional chant to contemporary Hawaiian classics and from original compositions and pop songs to R&B. All the while, Kalani amazes audiences with his charming, dynamic stage presence.
