Free screenings of Livin’ on a Rock will be held at Kukuau Studio in Hilo on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, and at the Honoka‘a People’s Theatre on Tuesday, Dec. 19; both screenings at 6 p.m.
Some of Hawai‘i Island’s best musicians tell the story of the state’s music scene in their own words in the film Livin’ on a Rock.
Filmmaker Steve Roby of Snap Judgement Films interviewed 25 musicians and industry professionals for the new documentary, including North Kohala slack key master John Keawe, Grammy-winner Charles Michael Brotman and 40-year director of the Honoka‘a Jazz Band, Gary Washburn.
Also featured are the one-man band Bosco, Brad Bordessa, Dagan Bernstein, Mikey Fiyah, Chuck Gessert, Tomi Isobe, Hannah Kaplon, Lifeinpursuit, Bub Pratt, Lopaka Rootz, Ronnie V, Russell Ruderman, Richard Russell, Scott Reagan, Rachael Scott and Greg Shirley, co-owner of Gertrude’s Jazz Bar in Kailua-Kona.
