What better way to start it off than with an island-themed Christmas jingle?
Big Island singer-songwriter Lopaka Rootz will be releasing his holiday single, “Skankin’ Around the Coconut Tree,” on all digital streaming platforms starting December 10.
Based on the original “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee, this fun parody with an island twist will have you daydreaming on the beach, sipping Mai-Tai’s, and dancing around the coconut trees.
“Skankin Around the Coconut Tree” was recently picked up by several radio stations before its official release. The single was produced at Glory Sounds Studio in Volcano by I am Willz Kauhane, with musical contributions by Pat Eskildsen, Scarlet Eskildsen of Saddle Road Productions, and Payton Meyer. There’s also a music video in the works that will be released shortly after the song drops.
Lopaka Rootz is a singer-songwriter-musician from Kailua Kona, Hawaii, and is best known for his KWXX-FM #1 hit songs like “Living My Best Life” and “Blue Clear Sky.” You may have heard his other singles on KAPA-FM as well as stations on Maui and Kauai.
Lopaka was also recently featured on KHON-TV’s Living 808 as one of local reggae’s upcoming stars. one of his most recent music videos, “Lemon Pie,” has been featured on Big Island Televisions Kanikapila Time.
Rootz has opened for such headlining acts as Leilani Wolfgramm, Soul Medic, Black Uhuru, Through The Roots, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, and Mike Love.
