Blues Rap band Nowelo will be headlining the 2018 Kona Brewer’s Festival.The event starts at 3:00, and they will be taking the stage 6:00-7:00pm.
Included in the 8-piece band is Ann Hoku Lyn, as well as Hip Hop pioneer Reggie Griffin, who has written, produced, and toured with music legends such as The Sugar Hill Gang, Chaka Khan,
and The Isley Brothers, to name a few. Griffin is currently working with Nowelo and resides on the Big Island.
Nowelo (pronounced no-VEL-oh) is a musical duo formed in 2015 consisting of blues guitarist and harmonica player Truth Musiq from San Francisco, and Rapper/Singer
Pana Jones from Kona, Hawaii. Although the group is based in Kona, they have a sound that connects with audiences from around the world. Their music resonates with a sonic inspiration that spans Hip Hop, Blues, Reggae and Island influences.
In 2016, Nowelo released their debut single “Leave Me,” a blues rap song about coping
with loss, which was recently recognized at The Hawaii Songwriting Festival, and performed to a standing ovation at the concert opening for Jason Mraz. After releasing several more singles, including “Passing Days” featuring singer/trumpeter Ann Hoku Lyn, they released their self-titled EP on 11/11/17, and performed as one of the headliners at Aina Fest. They are currently working on a full-length album entitled City of Refuge.
