The Kahilu Theatre will present Shangri La with Sun Hui on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at 4 p.m. Shangri-La will also feature Pierre Grill and Wade Cambern.
A world-class erhu (Chinese violin) player Sun Hui and award-winning recording engineer, pianist Pierre Grill started playing duets during the pandemic. They made many music videos with beautiful Hawaii scenery in the background. Sun and Pierre wanted to share their aloha via the internet while the world was locked down. Shangri La embraces music from around the world — focusing on traditional Chinese music and music fusion with Tango, Hawaiian, French, and more.
Sun Hui was born in Taiwan. She won first place at the Taiwan National Erhu Competition and has performed for the presidents of Taiwan and Palau. Since six, she has performed in Asia, America, Europe, Africa, and the United Nations. After earning a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Ohio State University, she continues to collaborate with musicians from all over the world. She has released five albums, including Across the Sea, which won the 2017 Nā Hōkū Honohono award for Best Instrumental Album of the Year.
Pierre Grill is an island favorite and award-winning recording engineer. He has helped many musicians to achieve their dreams as recording artists. In addition to being an engineer, he is also a lively and enthusiastic pianist. Wade Cambern is a founding Hawaiian Style Band member and one of the most famous Hawaii songwriters. He will play guitar, bass and sing in the show.
On-Demand tickets for this show, which are suitable for an entire household, are $19.99 and are available at Kahilu.TV.
