About Kids Matter
Kids Matter is a non-profit charitable organization that was founded in 2013 to provide funds and resources to enhance the ability of the Children’s Justice Center (CJC) of West Hawaii in their efforts to administer coordinated, comprehensive services to victims of child abuse and their non-offending family members. Their fund-raising efforts include providing foster children with needed sports equipment, bikes, games, books, musical instruments and computers, primarily for middle and high school students and kids aging out of foster care and headed to college. They also provide funds for things like prom tickets and needed attire. They have paid transportation costs for kids who have a sibling on another island, and fees for kids to attend camps. Kids Matter services children and families in all of West Hawaii, from North Kohala to Naalehu.
This Castaways band is a unique musical adventure. The group features Jesse Snyder, Brian McCree, Alex Czerny, Joey Bradley, Noa Eads, Pat Eskildsen, and Richard Russell. The Castaways play originals and re-imagined covers, most in the general direction of jazz, R&B, blues, and reggae. In their words, “We consider ‘genres’ a marketing ploy. Music is a language, and a means of transportation.” Their Kids Matter benefit concert on August 17 will mark their Kona debut.
