Friday
Ed Bisquera Jazz Trio at Gertrude’s Jazz Bar (Dec. 20, 2019, 7 p.m.). Ed Bisquera is a  jazz pianist/keyboardist originally from Portland, Oregon, now residing on the Big Island, will be performing original songs, as well as well-known R&B/Jazz Funk standards. The all-star lineup includes Justin Chittams, drums/vocals (Medicine for The People), Matt Spencer, bass (Big Island Latin ensemble Isla Tumbao) and Jennie Kaneshiro, vocals. Contemporary jazz arrangements of holiday favorites will round out the show, and feature Jennie Kaneshiro on vocals. More information can be found at Gertrude’s website. Nutcracker Ballet at the Kahilu Theatre (Saturday, December 21, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 22, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.) West Hawaii Dance Theatre lights up your holidays with this visually stunning family-friendly production of the Nutcracker Ballet. Production includes more than 70 community dancers and Guest Professionals. A full orchestra under the baton of Maestro Brian Dollinger with musicians of the West Hawaii Dance Theatre Orchestra will accompany the dancers. Cost: $49 / $39 / $29. Kaahele’s Solstice Show at the Blue Dragon (Saturday, December 21, 2019, 6:45-9:45 p.m.) Come celebrate Winter Solstice with some original “island folk” music with Kaahele. She will be joined by the talented ukulele player and vocalist Joey Bradley and Big Islands favorite percussionist, Noa Eads. Cover: $10. Adam Crow at Pāpaʻaloa Country Store & Café (Saturday, December 21, 2019, 5:30-8:00 p.m.). Pāpaʻaloa resident Adam Crowe is a professional musician who toured the West Coast mainland blues and reggae circuits with his O’ahu based band, Freesound, from 2000-2010. Come catch his talented guitar picking as he performs a solo acoustic set while looping rhythm leads and percussive sounds from his guitar. Adam’s set consists of a variety of classic blues, acoustic rock and folk covers accented with the humble mastery of his instrument and soulful vocals. Tavana at Don’s Mai Tai Bar (Saturday, December 21, 2019, 6-8 p.m.) Tavana is a multi-instrumentalist from Honolulu who uses electronic drum triggers to lay down a variety of grooves with his feet while simultaneously playing guitar, banjo, lap steel, or ukulele and singing soulful, island-inspired Rock and Blues. Don’s Mai Tai Bar is located in the Royal Kona Resort at 75-5852 Alii Drive, in Kailua-Kona. Info: (808) 930-3286.
