East Hawaii Women Rock at Lava Shack (Jan. 10, 2020, at 7 p.m.). The second celebration of East Hawaii Women Rock will feature talented women rockers from East Hawaii. Donations will be accepted at the door to benefit the Hilo Women’s March and the Hilo Women’s Shelter. Featured performers this year are: Ladies in the House with Alice Wise, Roni Koscik, Roanne Nip, Diana Webb, and Kerrie Ferris; Wendy Hays of the Red Road Ramblers with Geri Tolchin, Melina Brewer, Charlene Ewing, and June Jolicoeur; Tina Garber with Peggy Stanton, Laura Moidel Acevedo, and Ilana Moidel Acevedo; Marcie Dasalla with Laura Moidel Acevedo, Ilana Moidel Acevedo, Diana Webb, Melissa Mitchell Moore, and Lisa Lilja; and BTW with Suzanne MacAdam, Laura Moidel Acevedo, Ilana Moidel Acevedo, Roanne Nip, Darlene Calles Christian, and Karen Blue with special guest Lisa Lilja. Hawai‘i ‘Ukulele Ensemble at Hale Halawai Park (Jan. 10, 2020, at 6 p.m.). The public is invited to a free, family-friendly concert at Hale Halawai featuring the Hawai‘i ‘Ukulele Ensemble (HUE). With their own arrangements of familiar compositions, from classical to classic rock, HUE creates a rich, layered sound playing multiple parts in precise harmony. Itʻs a complex sound that is not usually associated with ukuleles but one that has astounded and delighted their audiences. Hale Halawai is located at 75-5760 Ali’i Drive, Kailua-Kona. Muriel Anderson at Gertrude’s Jazz Bar (Jan. 10, 2020 at 7 p.m.). Muriel Anderson is the first woman to have won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship and has performed/recorded with Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Victor Wooten, and Tommy Emmanuel. She is one of America’s premier acoustic guitarists/harp-guitarists and is the first woman to win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship. Tickets: $12 online of $15 at the door. DOA at the Hilo Town Tavern (Jan. 11, 2020, Doors: 8:30 p.m. Show: 9:30 p.m.). The last founding band of the hardcore punk genre, Dead On Arrival (D.O.A), will be performing a one-night show the Hilo Town Tavern as part of their 40th Anniversary Tour. Virginia Luque at a private house concert (Jan. 12, 2020, at 4 p.m.). Renown classical guitarist Virginia Luque has been touring, recording and directing for decades, and has earned a worldwide reputation as a guitarist, conductor, and educator.
