Waimea Community Chorus Seeking New Members For 26th Season

The Waimea Community Chorus (WCC) is about to embark on their 26th season starting September 4, 2018 and is inviting interested community members to join the 60-voice Waimea Community Chorus of Kahilu Theatre.  “We are always looking for new members,” says Director Barbara Kopra, “and this is a great way to see what we’re all about, people get to try us out and see if they like it!”

This year WCC will be performing a brand-new work composed by pianist Mark Hayes, “International Carol Suites I-V”, which debuted at Carnegie Hall in November 2017. In addition to the Suites, there will also be a lively sing-a-long portion of the concert highlighting community favorites of the season. The chorus practices every Tuesday and as they begin the process of learning the music, new members are invited to check out the first two rehearsals in the Mike Luce Studio at the Kahilu Theatre Tuesday, September 4th and 11th starting at 6:45 pm. For those who choose to join, membership is $55 for the season, which helps to support the program and covers the cost of music.

Requirements: No Audition necessary, just the love of singing and commitment to attending rehearsals consistently. Reading music is a plus but is by no means necessary.

Rehearsals: The chorus practices every Tuesday in the Mike Luce Studio at the Kahilu Theatre, 6:45 – 9 PM – extra sectional rehearsals will be offered on the weekends.

Performances: December 8 at 7 PM and December 9 at 4 PM at Kahilu Theatre.

Barbara Kopra, who has been the Director of the Community Chorus since 2005, is tremendously excited for this performance, “Every year we try to do something just a little bit different, which I think keeps things more interesting, but we need to get some new voices into the mix!”
